Epona's Pastures

Equine Place Of Nurture & Assistance

                      Introducing "Jazzie Lady" - 10.05.09

Jazzie Lady is one of eight horses that we assisted in re-homing over the Easter Holidays.
The owner of Jazzie Lady had contacted us and asked for assistance in placing his horses because he could no longer afford to feed them. The first day we met Jazzie Lady we were taken to a stable where she was lying down and feeling unwell with colic.

She was obviously feeling quiet poor as she had no interest in eating although the owner had placed a bucket of feed in her box.  When she got up we got the full picture of her condition, and it was a sigh of relief when she then showed some interest in her food.

.......Before we left her, Inger whispered in her ear, a promise that we would come back in a couple of days and take her home.

A Veterinarian Visit With The Full Dental - 28 May 2009

This lovely lady has been with us for a few weeks now and in the first week of her arrival, the Veterinarian came out to visit. Below is a very brief video clip from the Vet Visit while she is floating her teeth.

The Veterinarian only had good things to say about Jazzie, and aside from being down in condition, she is a healthy horse.  A week or so later we gave Jazzie a worming boost and it paid off ! The next day Asher went out to find plenty of big fat red worms in her manure.

Jazzie is now enjoying a relaxing lifestyle with three meals a day. The veterinarian prescribed ulcer medication for the first couple of weeks and once that was finished she has been given a mix of herbs to assist her with the continued healing of stomach ulcers and general digestion. She is a very affectionate horse and a pleasure to have around.

Jazzy joins the herd - 4th July 2009

Jazz has been on her own in the home paddock for the first stretch of her rehabilitation in order for us to keep a close eye on her progress in the early stages of re-feeding. She has made good progress thus far, and as her health is returning, there seems to be no shortage of spirit on display. She is perfectly easy to handle in every situation, with a very affectionate disposition.

We decided a short while ago that she was strong enough to join the herd and it has been a joy to watch her bond with the other horses, in particular BJ. She is such a lovely natured mare and is by no means at the top of the pecking order, however BJ being the perfect gentleman he is, seems to be happy to indulge her calling the shots... it's very amusing watching this love affair unfold and gives us much pleasure to see her wonderful spirit returning.

There is still a long way to go before our Jazz returns to full health. It is a painstaking process to re-feed a malnourished horse and must not be rushed. With the plentiful grass in the back paddock, hard feed twice a day, and plenty of room to excersise, we are sure that in a couple of months time this beautiful mare will be ready to commence some training so that we may decide which will be the most appropriate future for her.

Jazzy Lady Is Back To Her Former Glory - 02 Oct 2009

Since we last updated on Jazzy, she has been living it up with lots of love, nurture and daily care, so we thought it was time to show our readers how far she has come. Yesterday we brought a camera to the paddock and took a couple of photos of Jazzy relaxing with the Beautiful "Bella" whom our readers may recall from a rescue last year.
Jazzy has gained the weight she needed, she is back to her full glory and looking fantastic.

Although the intention was to begin a training regime with Jazzy over the next few weeks, we believe she may already have found a permanent home as a companion. Details to follow soon.....

Jazzie Has Been Adopted - 13.11.09

After many months of rehabilitation, love and care, the bond between horse and caretaker sometimes becomes too strong to break. Such is the situation for Asher and the lovely Jazzie Lady and it was with great joy that Asher permanently adopted this special horse who will continue to flourish under Asher's care. Below are some pictures that were taken on the day Jazzie became an official member of Asher's family.

We wish Asher and Jazzie Lady all the best and we know that Jazzie could never had hoped for a bettter home.
