We Welcome "Freddie" - 9 November, 2010
This lovely man came to us through a local family who love their horses. The family who bred Freddie care so much about their horses that if a horse is sold on for racing, they will follow the horse's movements. If the horse changes hands again, they will contact the new owners to notify them that when the horse retires they would like it back.
Once Freddie was ready to retire, he was returned to his original family who assessed Freddie's temperament and decided that he would make a lovely riding horse for someone. Epona's Pastures feel very honoured that they have trusted Freddie to our care for re-education to saddle and to find him the perfect new forever home.

Freddie has had a couple of weeks to settle in and get to know his new paddock friends and was ready to start his first lesson on how to be a riding horse.
Feddie was a little tense and unsure to begin with but he soon started to relax and was happily walking out on a loose rein...
Freddie will continue his roundyard schooling for a little while longer before he will be ready to head out for his first ride. Thus far he is proving to be a very big 'softy' who loves attention and thrives on praise when he has done the right thing.
Freddie The Trail Riding Horse - 3 January, 2011
Since our last update, Freddie has been out for several rides and is yet to put a foot wrong. He has gained his confidence and is happy to lead or to follow when he is out on the trails.
Matt rode Freddie on a longer ride yesterday with friends and loved him so much he was considering keeping him and exchanging him for his current riding horse.
Freddie is a thinker, he doesn't panic when something goes wrong and will stop and assess each situation before taking his next step. On two occasions he demonstrated this behaviour with Matt yesterday and we were all impressed by his performance to date. The pictures below show Matt taking Freddie through different scenarios on the ride yesterday including general bush, cows, lawnmowers, cars and the general neighbourhood before reaching our destination.

Freddie Finds A Home - 1 January, 2011
We are so pleased to see Freddie find such a wonderful permanent home...or maybe it was Wendy who found him....In any case it's a match made in heaven !
Wendy came out to see Freddie on a couple of occasions before she took him home on trial. From the first week he arrived we have heard nothing more then praises and fantastic news on how well they are progressing together. It is times like these that makes all the efforts worth while.
We look forward to seeing these two grow together, they are already best friends.
