Introducing "Big Boy" - 31 May, 2011
This handsome boy arrived at Epona's Pastures in March 2011 and has been given some time to have a holiday after retiring from the track . Upon arrival, we waited to get to know him a little before giving him a new name, in the meantime we just fondly referred to him as "Big Boy". It seems the name has stuck and he is therefore being introduced as we know him, and he is simply "Big Boy" .
It is not without good reason we have given him this name, he stands at 17hh plus (official measurement to follow), he is 6 years old and a rich bay in colour.

Big Boy Has A New Name & Begins His Training - 29 June, 2011
Big boy has finally got a name, he is now known as "Rex". The name came from his other paddock nickname 'T-Rex', but a meat eating monster he certainly is not, so he is now simply called Rex.
Gill has started Rex's education and he is progressing nicely into a lovely riding horse. Gill and Rex are working as a great team and Rex has turned into a relaxed and friendly horse...ok, he's a big sook, but we don't tell him that ! Gill begins with doing some exercises to test Rex's temperament, not the more common exercises but Gill is good at using her imagination to obtain the results she is looking for...

Having passed his character and temperament tests, Gill spends the next training sessions introducing him to the saddle and a rider, it's a long way up....
Gill spends the next few training sessions with Rex in the roundyard to establish the aids and to make sure Rex is comfortable with his new role as a riding horse. Rex has taken a very relexed approach to it all and strides out like a pro.
